Spotlight: The Local Exchange Marietta
If you’ve ever strolled through the Marietta Square and wished for a one-stop shop that blends charm, community, and craftsmanship—The Local Exchange is it. Part market, part gift shop, part tasting experience, this gem truly lives up to its name by offering something for everyone, all while supporting Georgia-grown products and local makers.
I was lucky enough to connect with the incredible team behind the shop for this spotlight, and their passion for community shines through every answer. Read on to learn more about what makes this modern-day general store such a special part of Marietta!
Tell us about The Local Exchange—how would you describe what you offer?
We’re your modern-day general store. You’ll find locally made fresh food, beverages, merchandise, craft beer, fine wines, local art, and vintage antiques. All of our products are either local, fair trade, organic, made in the USA, and/or recyclable. When you shop here, you’re supporting the local business community.
What inspired you to open this store on the Square?
When our family moved here, we saw a need for a market close by. The Square is so walkable, and we wanted to provide both residents and visitors with convenient grocery and gift options. We merged that need with our love of locally made goods.
What’s your mission?
Our mission is to support all things local. We prioritize showcasing Georgia Grown and Georgia-made products and only supplement with sought-after items when necessary.
What are a few of your best-selling or most-loved items?
Definitely Knotty Pretzels, Hometown Honey, Minted Market Candles, and our local coffee offerings from Rev, Cool Beans, and Aroma Ridge.
What’s something new or unexpected you’ve introduced lately?
Surprise! Our new freeze-dried food options have been a big hit.
Can shoppers try samples?
Absolutely! We almost always have samples of honey, olive oils, and Knotty Pretzels available. We rotate in other samples regularly, too.
How do you keep the shop fresh and exciting?
Seasonal flavors, handmade goods, and always being on the lookout for new local vendors.
How can new local makers or artists get in touch?
The best way is to email us or reach out via social media. Our process is pretty casual—we love meeting new creatives.
What makes The Local Exchange different from other shops?
Our emphasis on local makers and the wide variety of products. You’ll find everything from frozen foods and fresh groceries to handmade candles, art, and Georgia-themed gifts.
Do you ever host events?
Yes! We love inviting vendors in for tastings, offering sample days, and even host book signings with local authors.
What’s the most rewarding part of running this business?
Meeting the people behind the products we carry. We also have a really special team that makes coming to work a joy.
Was there ever a moment where the community really showed up for you?
During COVID, we felt so supported—it was incredible. Marietta really cares about its small businesses.
Any unique offerings we should know about?
We have New Creations Root Beer on tap! And our selection of Georgia- and Marietta-themed products is always a favorite.
If someone was visiting Marietta for the day, after shopping at the Local Exchange Marietta, what would your ideal itinerary be?
Grab lunch at one of the Square’s amazing restaurants, stop by Sweet Melissa Records for a new album, and wrap up the day with a cocktail at Third Door or Two Birds.
Whether you’re looking for a unique gift, a delicious local snack, or just a little inspiration—The Local Exchange has it all. Next time you’re in the Square, pop in and see what treasures you’ll find!
